Earth love heart

Happy Earth Day!

Earth love heartToday is Earth Day. Despite all the environmental damage we inflict on our beautiful planet every day, it continues to provide us with abundant sustenance.

Today is a day you can give a little something back to the planet to show your gratitude. Although well-intentioned, as today is about educating the masses on how to preserve the planet and keep it clean, let’s challenge ourselves to do this on a daily basis.

As I have said before, love is one of the few things in this world that we have infinite quantities of. You’ll never run out of it, so let’s spend it! And we can spend some of this love on the planet. There are lots of small things that can be done – increasing the thermostat in the summer and lowering it in the winter, using less water, drive less, etc. But you can also pick up a piece of garbage you find on the street and dispose of it properly, perhaps even recycle it.

Best of all, you can examine your own lifestyle and see if you can reduce the amount of garbage you make. I saw a documentary last year called No Impact Man.  It was a wonderful exploration of a family that committed to having no impact on the environment for a year.  You quickly realize this is a nearly impossible endeavor, but at the same time, you learn how easy something like composting is even when living in a city.

If love is one of the three pillars you need strengthening, then showing the earth some love and gratitude  is a great place to start.  There is no downside.
