Angeles – Welcome To The Philippines (And It’s Biggest Red Light District)
Angeles was my introduction to The Philippines. It’s basically a city that sprouted up to support what used to be the U.S.’s biggest military base outside the U.S.
As a result, it’s essentially a redlight district. I guess it’s a bit ironic considering the name of the city.
The U.S. left in the early 1990s after a big volcano eruption. In its place, there is a Filipino military base, a free trade area, and a civilian airport. The civilian airport has become a low-cost airline hub serving a the Metro Manila area.
While there I had the pleasure of meeting up with a friend from business school. It seemed like we weren’t going to get to meet up, but luckily things worked out and I got to meet him the day before I headed south to Cebu.
Otherwise, there isn’t much to say about this place. I did get to fly for the first time, which is worthy of its own post :).
