Caracas, Venezuela – A Green And Beautiful Capital

January 10, 2012

Plaza Altimira During The Day

Caracas is a hard city to write about. I spent way more time here than I expected to since I had such a good time with my friend Luis and since my volunteering opportunity in Eastern Venezuela fell through. Saftey When I first arrived, I wasn’t nervous about being in a city with a bad [...]

A $98,000 Bus Ticket

January 9, 2012

$98,000 Bus Ticket

Colombia happens to use $ as the symbol for their currency. This 98,000 Peso ticket from Cucuta to Medellin costs $52 in U.S. Dollars. Looks cool though! Not cool is that the guy selling the tickets through the official company’s office charged me 100,000 Pesos so he could keep 2,000 Pesos (about $1) for himself.

Celebrating The New Year In Venezuela – Impromptu Trip To The Most Beautiful Beach I’ve Ever Seen

January 9, 2012

Me At Playa Azul

I haven’t really been on top of things here in Venezuela. I’ve been having a great time with my friend Luis and things have been awesome. The volunteering opportunity I arranged in Barcelona, Venezulea didn’t work out, so just before New Year’s I found myself not knowing what to do. Staying longer felt like overstaying [...]

January 7, 2012

Cash Flow Tap Spewing Dollars

Jessica, the awesome Peace Corps Volunteer I stayed with in Chichica, Panama just wrote this amazing article about where the money flows in her community. A Green Christmas In Venezuela – The Best Christmas Away From Home I Could Have

January 5, 2012

Green Christmas

I arrived in Venezuela late at night on the 23rd just in time for Nochebuena/Holy Night/Christmas Eve. For most of Latin America, Christmas is really celebrated on the 24th at night. The day started out like none I’ve ever had. Dissatisfied that I didn’t eat anything when I arrived the night before after such a [...]

Crossing The Colombian-Venezuelan Border – Another Nightmare But I Rode A Motorcycle

January 4, 2012

Border Motorcycle Ride

My luck with border crossings seems to be getting worse instead of better. Until the incident in Panama, all my border crossings have been quite easy and painless. Entering Colombia was easy because the boat company took care of our immigration. Well, I left Santa Marta on an 8am bus bound for Maicao. Maicao is [...]

Tayrona National Park, Colombia – Heaven On Earth, Untouched

January 3, 2012

At Tayrona National Park

I have probably overused the world paradise lately. And it’s a shame because I inadvertently have cried wolf. Even though I wasn’t in Tayrona for much time, about 36 hours, they are 36 hours I’ll never forget. There aren’t a ton of words in this post because I want the pictures to try and tell [...]
