Guatape, Colombia – A Colorful And Artistic Town
Guatape is famous for two things – its beautiful zocalos (3-dimensional drawings at the base of its buildings) and a gigantic rock. One of these on its own would have been enough to bring me here. Both made it a must see!
Outside of town is a dam that provides 30% of Colombia’s electricity. The man-made lake created as a result covers the old town of Guatape. All that remains visible of the previous city is the cross from the church poking up out of the water.
Zocalos
The town of Guatape has beautiful drawings at the base of all of its buildings. It truly brings the town to life and offers something unique to visitors.

Conclusion
Just two hours outside of Medellin, this was a great place to stay for a few days. Between the rock and the colorful, artistic city, it was a nice pit stop for The Happy Nomad Tour. Thanks to Hostel El Encuentro for letting me stay for free.
