Change Your Paradigm – Be A Filter

Change your paradigm

There’s more to life than the American Dream we’ve been sold. In this series I present an alternative way to view the world and your surroundings. There is so much out there to experience, enjoy, and incorporate into our lives. It’s all there for the taking, but getting there is the hard part. In this series I show how to to change your paradigm to give yourself a fighting chance of taking the path less less traveled to live up to your potential. How you act on what you discover is up to you, but I hope you take your own plunge into a happier and healthier life.

Be A Filter

On this trip I’ve been truly lucky to meet some incredible people. Some of those people are happier than I ever could have imagined, truly at peace with themselves and their environment. I probably would have thought they were crazy before, but now I admire how they tapped into that infinite source of happiness inside each of us.

Something I have noticed about these people is their sense of honesty. The world is a mess. They know that. I’ve often found them in places most people would avoid going.

There are too many problems to fix. What is the most important issue to tackle? How can I help people the most? Where should I focus my efforts? It’s easy to feel helpless and overwhelmed with all these questions, so much so that many people never actually commit to doing anything. What makes the other people remarkable is that they do take action.

I always say to look at your passions and apply them to doing something positive for your local community. There is no place you care more about and helping your local community benefits you directly. You can also see it with your own eyes as things improve. If everyone did something for their local community the whole would would be a better place as a result.

Fine. Easy to say.

What makes these other people different is that they are a filter. They are humanity’s catalytic converter. They take what’s bad and make it better. They purify our impurities. Through them, bad turns to good, despair to hope, anger to calmness, sadness to happiness.

They make it look easy, but it’s not. It takes incredible focus and faith, faith that things will get better and that they are making a difference in the world. Some seem to naturally have such a predilection for purification. They make it seem easy, which makes it seem impossible for the rest of us. But it’s not.

It starts with a decision. Decide to be the best you can be. Being mindful of this will help you change your daily patterns to default to the option that reflects the best you can be. If you find yourself in despair about the state of things, becoming a filter and making your environment (literally or figuratively) better is the best way to overcome this.

I don’t know if it’s confidence, maybe just a general satisfaction with life, but when you are doing your part as a citizen, as a human, to making the human experience better for others, you can sleep more soundly at night knowing your life has purpose, knowing that you are filtering out that negativity and badness and injecting positivity, hope, and good into the world.

Be the change you wish to see in the world.
